Eligibility

  • This competition is open only to students currently enrolled in recognised educational institutions in Malaysia (e.g., secondary schools, colleges, universities, or vocational training institutes).

  • Participants must submit valid proof of student status. Acceptable documents include:

    • A student ID card that clearly shows the participant’s name, institution name, and validity period

    • An official letter from the institution confirming current enrollment

    • Under-18 high school students may use an IC if no student card is available

  • The name submitted with the entry must match the name on the student ID.

  • Any falsification of documents or impersonation will result in disqualification.

  • The organisers reserve the right to verify student status at any stage of the competition.

  • Members of the organising committee for this photography competition are not eligible to participate.

  • Why is IC (Identification Card) required as proof of age?

    • If the participant is a high school student under the age of 18 and if they do not possess a student ID, they may submit a photo or copy of their IC (Identification Card) to verify age eligibility.

    • The IC will be used solely for eligibility verification purposes and not for any other use.

    • Please ensure that only the participant’s name and date of birth are visible. Other personal information (e.g., IC number, address) may be covered or blurred to protect privacy.

    • All submitted documents will be securely stored by the organiser and permanently deleted after the competition to ensure data safety.

    • Any falsification of documents will result in disqualification.

Submission Requirements

  • Submissions must be made through the official website. (See official website: https://fleetinglight.art/competition)

  • The theme must align with Fleeting Light, telling a story through light and shadow.

  • Each participant may submit only one (1) entry.

  • File format: JPEG or JPG only; total file size must not exceed 30 MB.

  • A title and description (within 50 words) must be included.

  • Entries must be original works by the participant and taken within the year 2025.

  • No borders, watermarks, signatures, or similar marks are allowed.

  • Basic editing is permitted (e.g., adjustments to brightness, contrast, and color).

  • AI-generated or AI-processed works are strictly prohibited.

  • All entries must be submitted before the deadline.

Judging and Awards

  • Preliminary Round: The judging panel will shortlist 50 entries.

  • Final Round:

    • The judging panel will select the top three winning entries.

    • Public voting will determine three People's Choice Awards.

  • Judging Criteria (Total: 100%):

    • Relevance to Theme - 15%

    • Creativity and Originality - 25%

    • Technical Execution - 25%

    • Storytelling and Emotional Impact - 20%

    • Visual Presentation and Description - 15%

Registration Fee

  • The registration fees are as follows:

    • Chinese Language Society Multimedia University (Cyberjaya) Members: RM10.00

    • Non-member / Public: RM15.00

  • Once paid, registration fees are non-refundable. Failure to pay or incomplete payment will result in disqualification.

  • Please ensure the payment reference is filled in the format: “FLC_NAME”.

  • Note:

    • Participants who submit invalid or incomplete payment receipts (missing/lacking valid proof) under "Payment Details" will not be considered as contestants.

    • Do not blur or censor the e-wallet transaction reference number.

    • If you encounter any payment issues, please contact the person listed on the last page of this guide.

Copyright and Usage Rights

Copyright Ownership

Participants must guarantee they hold full copyright ownership of their submitted works.

In the event of any copyright disputes, participants shall bear full responsibility.

Organizer’s Scope of Authorization

The organiser may use the submitted works for the following purposes:

  • Exhibition and display during and after the competition (both online and offline)

  • Publication in official event materials, such as:

    • Event brochures

    • Social media posts, videos, online galleries

    • Official website, e-newsletters

    • Press releases, media promotion, and competition reviews

  • Educational or academic purposes related to the competition, such as exhibitions, lectures, etc.

Organiser Usage Restrictions:

  • The organiser shall not use the submitted works for unrelated commercial purposes, sale, or sublicense without the participant’s prior written consent.

  • Except for promotional purposes related to the competition, the organiser shall not transfer the works to third parties (e.g., sponsors, media, institutions) without the participant’s written permission. If a third party expresses interest in purchasing or licensing a work, the organiser will assist in connecting them with the participant.

  • The organiser shall not make misleading edits or alterations to the works. Only necessary design and layout adjustments are permitted, such as:

    • Appropriate cropping

    • Resizing

    • Adding title/credits

When the works are used, the participant’s name and school (if applicable) will be credited.

Authorization Period

The authorisation is valid for five years from the date of submission.

If further use is required after the authorisation period (e.g., for archival display), the organiser must obtain renewed consent from the participant unless otherwise specified.

Participant Attribution

When using the works in any context, the organiser will clearly credit the participant’s name and school (if provided).

If partner media outlets reproduce the works, the organiser will make every effort to ensure that the attribution information is not removed or altered.

Right of Withdrawal

Participants may submit a written request to withdraw authorisation.

The withdrawal will not affect any content that has already been published or exhibited prior to the withdrawal.

Legal Responsibilities

  • The use of any copyrighted content without authorisation (such as artworks, brand trademarks, specific buildings, etc.) is strictly prohibited.

  • Entries must not infringe on others’ privacy rights or involve illegal or unethical content and must comply with basic ethical standards.

Disqualification Criteria

  • Submitting false information (e.g., falsified EXIF data) or using any artificial intelligence (AI) to generate or process the work.

  • Failure to provide the original RAW file or high-resolution version of the work upon request.

  • Submitting works that have previously won awards in other competitions.

10.

Obligations of Awardees

To ensure fairness, transparency, and smooth follow-up publicity, awardees must comply with the following:

  1. Submit Original Image Files

    • Provide the original image files, including RAW format or high-resolution versions, for verification and exhibition purposes.

  2. Participate in Media Promotion

    • Cooperate with media interviews arranged by the organiser or participate in creating promotional materials (such as contestant introduction videos).

  3. Sign Relevant Agreements

    • Including authorisation agreements, media cooperation consent forms, or other legal documents (if any).

  4. Attend Award Ceremony

    • Awardees must attend the closing ceremony and award event in person or by a representative to receive the award and participate in group photos.
